Do Psychedelic Mushrooms Act Differently While on Ozempic?

Someone on Reddit asked whether taking psilocybin mushrooms (or "microdosing" them) would act differently if you’re also using semaglutide — the drug in Ozempic/Wegovy — because semaglutide slows how fast your stomach empties. That’s the whole question: could the slower digestion change how the mushrooms feel or how strong they are? Psilocybin is the active compound in “magic” mushrooms. Your body turns psilocybin into psilocin, which affects brain chemicals and causes the psychedelic effects. Semaglutide is a medicine that mimics a gut hormone; people use it for diabetes and weight loss because it lowers appetite and slows gastric emptying (it makes your stomach empty more slowly). They work on different systems: psilocybin mainly affects brain receptors, while semaglutide works on gut and brain pathways that control hunger and digestion. There isn’t any solid clinical research directly testing how semaglutide changes psilocybin effects. The question is plausible: if your stomach empties more slowly, that can change how fast oral drugs get absorbed. For many oral drugs and foods, slower gastric emptying can delay and sometimes blur the peak of effects. But psilocybin’s absorption and conversion to psilocin are not fully mapped in people on gastric-slowing drugs, and most evidence is just theory or individual reports. Legally and medically, psilocybin is controlled or illegal in many places, and semaglutide is a prescription medicine you should use under a doctor’s guidance. Bottom line: It’s reasonable to expect timing and maybe intensity could change because semaglutide slows digestion, but there’s no good research yet — so be cautious and consult a clinician.
