Three-action obesity shot cut mice weight far more than tirzepatide — early data

A Chinese biotech called Ascletis reported that an experimental injection named ASC37 caused much bigger weight loss than tirzepatide in a mouse study. The company says ASC37 beat tirzepatide by 88% on the key measure they used. Ascletis also said it plans to pursue approval via the US FDA’s biologics pathway, but the news is based on preclinical lab work in mice, not human trials. ASC37 is described as a “triple-action” peptide therapy. In plain terms, that means it’s a small chain of amino acids (a peptide) designed to hit three different targets in the body that together control appetite, blood sugar and fat metabolism. Think of it as a single drug that tries to do the job of three different hormones or signals. Peptides like this are similar in concept to drugs you’ve heard of — for example, semaglutide (Ozempic/Wegovy) — in that they mimic natural signaling molecules, but ASC37 combines multiple actions in one molecule. The study behind the headline was done in mice, not people. Ascletis reported an 88% improvement over tirzepatide on whatever weight-loss metric they measured in those animals. Mouse studies are a first step researchers use to see if a drug has promise. They can show how a medicine affects biology and weight, but results in mice often don’t translate directly to humans. The press release doesn’t give details here about how many mice were used, how long the study lasted, or other endpoints like safety or metabolic effects, so we don’t know how robust the finding is.
