People Move Less After Starting GLP-1 Weight Drugs, Study Finds

A study reported at the Endocrine Society meeting found that people who started taking GLP-1 receptor agonists—drugs like semaglutide (the active ingredient in Ozempic and Wegovy) and similar medicines—tended to move less afterward. In other words, after beginning these medications, average physical activity dropped noticeably in the group the researchers observed. GLP-1 receptor agonists are drugs that copy a natural gut hormone called GLP-1. That hormone helps control appetite, makes you feel full, and slows how fast your stomach empties. Clinically, these medicines are used to help with blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes and, more recently, for weight loss because they reduce hunger and calorie intake.
