Veterans' Hospital Tests Ozempic-Style Drug to Curb Alcohol Cravings

The Veterans Affairs (VA) health system is testing whether a class of drugs called GLP-1 treatments — the same kind of medicines that include popular weight-loss and diabetes drugs — can help people with alcohol use disorder. In other words, researchers at the VA are running studies to see if these medicines reduce heavy drinking or help people cut down. GLP-1 stands for "glucagon-like peptide-1," which is a natural hormone your gut releases after you eat.
