Growth-hormone shots? User reports modest blood-sugar dip after injections

Someone on Reddit reported that after injecting two peptides, ipamorelin and sermorelin (460 micrograms each), their blood sugar dropped from about 96–98 mg/dL down to around 83–88 mg/dL within 30–60 minutes. They also noted they take tirzepatide 5 mg (a prescription diabetes/weight-loss drug) but said this sugar drop happens when they inject the peptides. The post is an individual observation, not a controlled study. Ipamorelin and sermorelin are both “growth hormone secretagogues,” which just means they tell your body to release more growth hormone (the natural hormone that helps tissues repair and grow). Sermorelin acts like a fragment of the brain chemical (growth hormone–releasing hormone) that tells the pituitary gland to make growth hormone. Ipamorelin mimics a different small messenger (ghrelin-like) that also nudges the pituitary to release growth hormone. Neither of them is insulin, and they aren’t approved diabetes drugs — they’re used in some clinics or by people self-administering to try to increase growth hormone levels. What the Reddit post actually shows is an anecdote — one person noticing a modest fall in blood glucose after injecting these peptides. It’s not a study. There’s no control group, no repeated measures across lots of people, and the poster is also taking tirzepatide, which affects blood sugar. The change reported (dropping from the high-90s to mid-80s mg/dL) is small and within normal day-to-day variability. That doesn’t prove the peptides caused it, but it does raise an observation that could be worth studying formally. Why it might matter: if these peptides do lower blood sugar even a little, that could be relevant for people using them alongside diabetes drugs or drugs that already lower glucose. A small dip could be harmless for most people, but for someone on medications that can cause low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), adding another glucose-lowering effect could increase risk. Clinicians, people on glucose-lowering drugs, or anyone tracking blood sugar would want to know if there’s a consistent interaction.
