The FDA has approved tirzepatide to reduce the risk of major heart-related problems in people with type 2 diabetes. Tirzepatide is a man-made drug that acts like two natural hormones that come from the gut after you eat. The approval is based on a large clinical trial that looked at people with type 2 diabetes to see whether taking tirzepatide reduced serious heart-related events compared with standard care.
