Their main point is that while some peptides have approved medical uses, many treatments being marketed directly to consumers lack solid evidence and oversight. Peptides are small molecules that occur naturally in the body and can act like tiny messengers. Some approved peptide drugs imitate or boost natural signals to treat specific conditions. For example, a few peptide-based medicines are approved for things like hormone deficiencies or certain genetic conditions. But because peptides can be synthesized in labs and are relatively easy to create, a growing number of clinics and online companies are selling a wide variety of peptide treatments for everything from anti-aging to weight loss, often without strong proof they work. What the AMA highlights is not a single scientific study but a pattern: many clinics are using peptides in ways that aren’t backed by rigorous human trials.
